Jesus in Everything: Red Party Cups
Nothing says party like grabbing a bag of red cups off the end cap at the store.
Whether it's a backyard barbque or a celebration of one of life's big milestones, red party cups are a sure sign that people gathered, someone opened a two liter, and some fun and conversation were had.
Hopefully, those cups and those people connected in real and meaningful ways. Hopefully, someone raised their cup to honor someone else. Hopefully, someone accidentally left their cup on a patio table half full because the conversation was just so good they were distracted from insignificant things like food and beverages. Hopefully someone left feeling heard, their stomach and heart full.
When we gather, I believe God smiles.
He is a celebratory God who invented the concept of feasting, rejoicing, and coming together. When we toast one another in the big and little moments of life, we engage in relationships and life together, which are gifts from a God who knew we would need one another, not simply need to tolerate one another.
Today's episode of Jesus in Everything celebrates Jesus in our fun, in our laughter, and in our connections. This episode goes out to all the college students back in school, studying in their dorms, grabbing red party cups off a jankily set up folding table somewhere, and making daily decisions on where exactly to let Jesus go with them and whether to let Him out at all. It also goes out to all of you hoping for one more backyard bbq to wrap up the summer and welcome in the Fall, to the tailgaters and the birthday party hosters, to those who will gather around your table, and those who love that someone invented recycling for all those plastic cups, so the dishwasher in the house could have a break for the evening.
Here's to all the parties to come.
