Prodigal Mercy

May 14, 2019 by Heidi Goehmann in family, ministry

There once was a Father who ran down a road.

It seems really anti-climatic when compared to Thanos turning half the universe to ash or Luke’s force-ghost battling Kylo Ren for what seemed like a solid twelve minutes.

We are so used to big displays of power in our entertainment, I think it’s hard when we don’t see them in our own lives. Relationships, more than any other element of life, are meant for the slow burn, the journey, the long haul, not simply the moment.

Imagine what life would be like without the mom or dad who feeds us warm milk to help us grow, and then squishy foods safe for our tummies, and then drippy popsicles, and on to salty nacho chips with a side of “why don’t you try salad?”

Imagine what life would be like without the friend who saw us through the first day of school, or the awkwardness of growing a chest or growing chest hair, or cheered alongside us as we moved our tassels to the other side of our caps.

Imagine what life would be like without first dates, turned to heart-to-hearts, turned to first kisses, turned to breakups, or turned to something more and having someone to kavitch with about it all.

Imagine what life would be like without the grandma, the mom, the dad, the friend, the cousin, the brother or sister praying over nights and over years when we have been the ones in need, or the ones out there lost in this world.

We all have or have had at least one person who would run down the road for us without a second thought. You may not even know you have this person, but they are there. I have yet to meet someone (Jesus follower or not a Jesus follower) without at least one Prodigal Prayer Warrior - someone who prays them through days and years, whether asking the Spirit to help them know they are loved or asking Him to return them to the Father, waiting on the road.

These Prodigal Prayer Warriors, these people in our lives watching on our roads for us -

this is prodigal mercy at its finest.

In today’s podcast, we talk about the slow burn of a relationship and the big burst of power in a relationship when God unleashes His healing.

Luke 15
