Connections: Industry, Purpose, & Motivation
The first moment I connected with Kim Marxhausen about this Mental Health Monday episode I new the content would be good because the first notes she sent over simply said:
God is not a behaviorist.
What does this mean?
It means God is more concerned about who we are, than what we do.
God is more concerned about our heart than our productivity.
This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care about our actions or the things we speak up for in this world or the way we move and live in this place He created. It does mean that God isn’t wrapped up in them only. He doesn’t judge us by those things, He judges us by grace.
This frees us up to do all the good stuff, to live and move and make the world lovely.
When our purpose is about God’s grace, rather than following just the right path, wow, does that change things. That grace builds stronger mental health because we don’t feel the weight of our need to please and do and act just so for God or for people. Instead, I’m just me, a product of God’s love and God’s grace.
Tune in to today Mental Health Monday to hear more from Dr. Kim Marxhausen, from me, and from our grace-filled God. Today we’re talking about behavior theories and where solid motivation to make change and move forward in our lives comes from.
