Jesus is mighty in many ways.
He was not only man, but He was God as well.
He fights battles we cannot see, with evil and all the things that want to hurt us.
He is the Word made flesh, which makes Him the Prophet of all prophets, Priest of all priests, and the perfect testimony of God’s epic story of love for His people.
He leads us when we need a leader, when we have questions, when we need a helper to fix the broken things in this world, and the broken sin inside of us.
He gives us His strength through the Holy Spirit.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Mightiest Judge, the mightiest of men. He is the Judge all other judges the Bible point us to.
Remember our theme verse from the book of Judges -
“But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the people of Israel, who saved them…” Judges 3:9a
This Bible verse is about the very first judge, Othniel. But here’s something cool: every verse in the Bible also points us to Jesus. The people of Israel cried out to God and God sent Jesus. We cry out to God and God sends Jesus into our lives and into our hearts. We pray and He hears our prayers.
God gave the people of Israel a very special box called the Ark of the Covenant. It held many special things that would help people understand who Jesus was when God sent Him to earth to die and rise again for us. Everything in that box pointed to Jesus Christ as Savior.
The book of Hebrews, written after Jesus came, explains that box had a special purpose for the people of Israel at the time, and the blood of animals was used for years and years to point them to the blood of Jesus (kind of weird, but God has better ideas than we might understand). Hebrews tells us that all that blood for all those years was only meant to show us Jesus -- His death to save us, His resurrection to bring us eternal life -- and that box points us to Jesus’s throne He sits on now to judge all of us.
“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:11-12
Jesus, just like the judges we learned about in the Bible, cared about right and wrong. He cares even now about good winning and evil ending. Only, Jesus was perfect. He always follows God because He is God! He also has just the right timing.
“It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:26
He judges now in heaven.
He Judges…and He also defends us and tells God the Father we are worth saving. Jesus sits on a seat of mercy and tells all of heaven that He died to save us so we can spend eternity with Him.
That’s a really big idea. Listen to what all the angels say in response to Jesus when He judges in heaven:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:12
I’m so glad we have a Savior who is merciful. I’m also glad we have a Savior who judges fairly and rightly, who doesn’t let evil win in the long run, and who fights battles for us.
He’s the Mightiest of Men, the beautiful-est of Saviors.
Now that’s a warrior.
Mightiest of all men
God and Savior
